Green Storage Shelving That Makes “Cents”
There’s a great deal of interest in eco-friendly initiatives these days; but some companies were eco-friendly or green-friendly even before the concept became popular. Since 1969, Southwest Solutions Group has been designing and installing green-friendly storage solutions that conserve building floor space and increase employee productivity. While we appreciate all the great building energy saving products to help conserve energy, we like to deal with the culprit – floor space efficiency. Let’s face it, if we reduce the amount of floor space with energy efficient innovative storage solutions, we reduce the amount of space we need to light, cool and heat in the first place (see high density shelving image photo gallery).
Innovative Storage Solutions and LEED Building Certification
Implementing innovative storage and filing solutions for office and warehouse spaces will reduce the carbon footprint area in storage environments by as much as 50% or more. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), an internationally recognized green building certification system, provides third-party verification for buildings designed and built using strategies aimed at improving performance across the metrics that matter most: energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality, and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their impacts. The impact of innovative storage and filing systems are smaller more energy efficient buildings, lower construction costs, and less energy to light, heat and cool buildings. Innovative storage solutions like high density mobile shelving and automated vertical carousels can contribute to LEED Certification in five of the six LEED categories.
Sustainable, Eco-Friendly Storage Solutions
When it comes to “green” claims, there are a few extra things you should know. There is no universal standard for certifying or labeling eco-friendly products or services. However, there are well-respected third party organizations such as GreenGuard and Cradle to Cradle that provide certification based on objective analysis. Learn about the certification process behind each label to help you make better purchasing decisions.
LEED certification only applies to building and renovation projects– not specific services or products. So, eco-friendly solutions may be properly advertised as helping your company earn LEED credits. But they cannot be accurately labeled as “LEED certified” themselves since the U.S. Green Building Council does not evaluate or certify any company, product, or service.
